Dr. John Im knew he wanted to specialize in emergency medicine from his first clinical rotation in medical school. Here’s what he discovered: most emergency rooms are set up to provide limited patient care. It is rushed, backlogged, and inefficient. Patients wait for hours only to be greeted by overworked staff who don’t have the time, capacity, or training to provide compassionate care.
Dr. Im knew there was a way to provide meaningful care for less acute, but still urgent cases.
He chose to specialize in emergency medicine and completed his education. He graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998, interned at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Seton Hall University in Newark, NJ.
